Mayer-Johnson's Boardmaker Plus! v.6 Giveaway Closed

Thursday, November 5, 2009

Last year, I wrote up a review of Mayer-Johnson’s Boardmaker Plus! v.6. You can read that here. Boardmaker is a software program that you can use to create schedules, communication boards, picture labels, augmentative device picture board templates and much more. I first heard about this program from the therapists and teachers that were working with my son. This was more than five years ago. I started off with one of the older versions and was able to get the v.6 last year.

I am so happy to be able to give one of my readers the chance to win a Boardmaker Plus! V.6. It retails for $399 and you can get one for free if you are the winner of this giveaway. With a picture library of over 4,500 pec symbols, 600 sample boards and 94 interactive templates, you can get started using this immediately. Plus, if you have a touch screen on your computer, this version comes with the capability of assigning sounds to your pictures.

Mayer-Johnson has a variety of products that you can purchase to help your child with communication. I recommend going over to their site and browsing their pages. They have books, games, classroom tools as well as the high tech and low tech communication devices. You will find just about everything you need to meet your child’s communication needs. Good luck with this giveaway. To keep up with new and exciting offerings from Mayer-Johnson, you can follow on Twitter, @mayerjohnson or Facebook

Hi! What a great giveaway! If I were to win, I would keep it for myself as I have a 71/2 year old son with Autism. He is non-verbal and has been doing fantastic since using PECs. However, we don't have our own boardmaker and have to rely on others to make pictures for us (which doesn't help when you think of something over the weekend!) Thanks for the chance!

Thanks for giving us a chance at this! What a great idea and extremely beneficel for so many of us!

If I were to win, I would keep it here with us. And provide pictures to my almost 5 year old son. We use the PECS system daily since he is nonverbal. I also rely on someone else to print the pictures I need. As of today, I am still needing 4 more that we use daily...but I am waiting.

Thanks for giving us a chance to win such a perfect gift! Thank You

I'm a grad student (Special Education) and would use the software to prepare materials for clients/students of mine. It's a great program!

After starting my book business (based on my son's situation) I was told about this program by a speech therapist. I've not used it yet. I'm not sure if it would allow for everything I currently do (i.e. with my own program I have no limits to the books I make & the control I have over text, layout, etc) but I'd love to see!! Thanks for the chance to win. *I already follow your blog.

I would love to win this for my sister and her kids. Three out of the four have autism along with other issues, ages 11, 9, and 5. They are higher functioning but both of the older ones require full time aides in school and go to therapy. Yes, she has her hands full but thankfully my mom helps her so much and has an extra special relationship with the kids. Anyway, I would love to win this for them as I know they would never be able to afford it otherwise. (Her husband has been laid off and is on UE.) Thanks for the chance!

AngieB. said...

Thanks for the opportunity to win this. I was just going to look into it because they had mentioned it last week in an IEP meeting for my son who has autism and is very limited verbally. If I were to win I would keep it to use for him.

I would use this for my 4 year old Son who has severe Autism. We have been wanting this ever since he was diagnosed, but can't afford it. Thank you for considering me!

Lauren said...

Oh My Gosh, how great! My 5 year old son Ben has severe autism and didn't start communicating with us until JUST recently when we started communicating through PECS. We cannot afford this item right now and are saving up for it. But it would be so exciting to be able to communicate sooner with the help of this software! I cannot tell you how much this would mean for Ben and us! I have been working on google images but want to be using the same images (boardmaker) that Ben's therapists use! I hate when $$$ stands in the way of a child's chance to progress. We are still trying to get a grant as well but wow, this would be a dream! Thanks!

I would love to have this for myself. I'm a school psychologist and I work with children with Autism as part of my job, as well as other students with other disabilities. Right now I use my camera, google images, clip art, and whatever other images I can get my hand on to make individualized schedules, social stories, etc. I have asked my school to buy Boardmaker, but with all of the budget cuts, it's just not feasible. I know so many kids that this could benefit at my two schools! (apsychmommy at gmail dot com)

I am so excited to see someone giving this product away! I am a music therapist and see 15 clients (ages 8-33) in home health care, and also work at an Autism Center. Diagnoses range from Autism, PDD-NOS, Down Syndrome, MR, and genetic disorders.

I have some old PECS and a visual schedule I have been using for the last year that is just falling apart! I had Boardmaker at a previous employer but no longer have access to it - and the children respond SO WELL to these cues! It would be such a blessing for all the clients and families I service.

Thanks for the opportunity!

Winning a gift like this would be like receiving a whole new realm of an opportunity for my son to be able to work on his pragmatic use of language, and improve his comprehension. Giving him something like this would give me some piece of mind knowing that he is spending his time wisely, rather than "Sifting"/Stimming a string around for hours... His developing autistic mind needs just this, and who could ever create such quality material??? Parents just do not have the time to do it all, and that gets to me. He would be enriched by this boardmaker, and if and when he is done using it, I will pass it along to another child that could benefit from this as well. :-D Thank-you for the generosity of this wonderful gift opportunity!! Sincerely, Cole's Mom "Lynda"

Hi there!

I would use this for my daughter who is a nonverbal 3 year old with autism and global apraxia. She is doing fantastic with PECS and needs to expand, but we do not have the money to buy boardmaker yet, (although it is on our list of things to do).
Being that I know many families with children on the spectrum, I'd offer to print out the necessary pictures because let's be honest...we're all here to help each other. I can't get through this without my other ASD moms.
