Lady GaGa Haitian Relief Special

Sunday, January 24, 2010

I wanted to draw some attention to a one day special at Lady Gaga. Today only, 100 % of the proceeds from the sale of merchandise on that site will go to Haitian Relief.

Last week, Haiti was devastated by a major earthquake. Following the earthquake, more devastation was caused by devastating after shocks. Haiti is in desperate need of medical supplies, food, water and other basic living supplies.

You can also go to the American Red Cross site and make a donation. I know money is tight for everyone, but if you can afford a couple dollars, this is the time to go and donate. There are those that believe that we should take care of Americans only with our money. I can understand that, but this is not the time to be concerned about borders. These are people, families, men, women and children. They need our help. It’s time to ignore borders and help our fellow human beings.

Supreme Court Ruling Lifts Campaign Donation Limits

Friday, January 22, 2010

“In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court rules corporations can spend unlimited amounts of money to elect and defeat candidates.” Democracy Now

“Republican Party leaders and their allies at the Chamber of Commerce cheered the decision, which overturned years of precedent, and was delivered by Republican judges a year after the Democrats captured Washington and set out to pass new regulations on Wall St., corporate polluters, big oil, and the health insurance industry. Conveniently, the GOP will have corporate allies with cash galore to spend in the fall elections.” U.S. News & World Report

What does all of this mean for us? We are screwed! Absolutely, without a doubt, screwed. Do you want lower gas prices? Not going to happen. Do you want alternative fuels to be a top priority? Not going to happen. Do you want affordable health insurance, health care and prescriptions? It might happen, but it will be taken away after the next election.

What are we going to do about it? Make your voice heard during election season. Make your vote count. Research who is contributing to your candidate’s campaign. Research who is paying for each candidate’s advertisements. If you want to know what your candidate’s voting policy will be after elected, find out who is getting him or her elected.

Don’t let the big companies win. Don’t let their money buy them our country. The United States of America belongs to the citizens of the United States, not the corporations on America. Every person in our country is important. Every vote is important. Make it count. Make yourself heard. Don’t let this be a victory for big business.
