Sensory Street Kids Melissa & Doug Band In A Box Giveaway

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

I introduced Lea Keating and Sensory Street Kids to you in a previous post. Lea also has a blog, called La La Language, in which she writes about sensory activities, SPD, and what is going on with Sensory Street Kids.

Lea would like to invite you over to her blog and get your input or questions. If you didn’t read my previous post, let me go over the main points of what Sensory Street Kids is. Lea founded Sensory Street Kids out of a need to provide her newly diagnosed with SPD son a quality and appropriate play group.

She needed the play group to be appropriate for his sensory needs. She needed it to encourage socialization with other children and to help him developmentally. When she couldn’t find one on her own, Lea turned to her son’s therapists and developed a curriculum for him.

This led to play groups designed around the curriculum, and eventually, to forming Sensory Street Kids. Sensory Street Kids is now provides in several states around the country. Parents and therapists can join the Sensory Street Kids team by becoming licensed providers. Once licenses through Sensory Street Kids, Lea provides them continuous support and resources within the Sensory Street Kids community. This includes and advisory board of specialized therapists, her website and the La La Language blog.

Lea, on behalf of Sensory Street Kids, is providing one Melissa and Doug Band In A Box set to one lucky reader of my blog. If you don’t win here, don’t worry, there will be opportunities on other blogs. I will list them on the Winner announcement post.

On-Task On-Time For Kids Giveaway From Timely Matters

Monday, June 28, 2010

Does your child have trouble staying on task? Does your child have difficulty with time management? Do you need to try a new system to help with both? Timely Matters, Inc. has come out with On·Task On·Time for Kids.

You can set up each disk for different times of the day. You can space out the stickers to give your child more time between activities. I visited their website to watch a video of how it works. It seems to be easy to carry around and the stickers on the rotating disc gives your child the visual cues he or she needs to help stay on task and on time. Plus, it shows what is coming up. It is a great way to give your child a portable schedule.

Timely Matters, Inc. will be giving one away to a lucky winner. The winner gets to choose if it will be for a boy or girl.

This giveaway starts now and will end July 13, 2010. You must be a US resident to win. Please leave your email with your entry comment.

Aquafina FlavorSplash Ambassador

I was selected to be one of Mom Central’s Aquafina FlavorSplash Mom Ambassador. For six weeks, I will receive a package once a week. I will be sampling the different flavors of Aquafina FlavorSplash. In return, I will be writing a post about it.

I have received my first package. It contained 6 bottles of Wild Berry Aquafina FlavorSplash, Wild Berry Lip Balms, and Coupons for Free Aquafina FlavorSplash Six-packs. My kids have drank different Aquafina FlavorSplash bottles. I had not. I drink water all the time, and I pick Aquafina from the beverage section of the gas stations all the time. The reason I have not tried the FlavorSplash before, is that I was afraid that the flavor would interfere with the water quenching my thirst.

I drink water because it is the only drink that actually quenches my thirst. When I drink sodas, sugar drinks, etc., I am still thirsty after drinking them. Also, I do a lot of activities outside with my family. I like to drink water to keep me hydrated. I also push water onto my kids in the summer. Since drinking the Aquafina FlavorSplash doesn’t seem like drinking water to them, I don’t get any complaints from them when I tell them “No” to soda or sugar drinks.

I tried my first Aquafina FlavorSplash after they had been in the refrigerator overnight. It was the Wild Berry flavor and I was surprised by it. It was just like the name says. It was water with a splash of flavor. I liked it. The big test was how it handled my thirst after I have been outside. My husband was sick, so I decided to mow the yard for him. I didn’t want to get a nasty letter from the city saying we needed to mow our yard.

I had worked up a big thirst. I was hot and sweaty, and needed a drink that would satisfy and hydrate me. I pulled out a bottle of Wild Berry Aquafina FlavorSplash. I downed half of it quick and held on to the bottle. It did what I was afraid it wouldn’t do. It quenched my thirst. I drank the rest of the bottle of the next half hour. When I was all cooled down, I was feeling great. I was also feeling proud of myself. I was always pushing this onto my kids, and now I am proud of myself for doing so.

In the coming weeks, I will be doing special giveaways for Aquafina goodies. At the end of this program, I will do a Grand Prize Giveaway. The Grand Prize Giveaway will include some items from each weeks shipments. Each weekly giveaway will give you an opportunity to enter the current giveaway as well as earn a special entry for the Grand Prize Giveaway. I will create a special page on my blog for the Grand Prize Giveaway and update it each time I add prizes to it.

Disclosure: I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for Aquafina FlavorSplash and have received various FlavorSplash samples to facilitate my participation. Mom Central will send me a gift card at the end of the program.

Silk PureAlmond Revew and Giveaway Closed

Sunday, May 2, 2010

I was sent two coupons, each for a free ½ Gallon container of Silk PureAlmond, to purchase and review Silk PureAlmond. I had not tried it in the past and looked forward to doing so. I took my coupons with me grocery shopping at Lowe’s Foods and found one container left on the refrigerator shelf. That was a good sign.

At home, I tried it first. I shook the container and poured me a cup. It was delicious. I let my son try it and he drank the whole glass. In the course of the two days that it survived in my refrigerator, my son brought it out several times for me to pour him a cup. His favorite lemonade and regular milk were in the refrigerator, too. The fact that he would pick the Silk PureAlmond over the others, proved to me that he didn’t drink the first cup simply because it’s what was given him.

A few days later, I used the second coupon over at Food Lion. That one only lasted a couple of days, too. If I had let my son have his way, neither container would have lasted a day. I only allowed him two cups of it a day.

Silk PureAlmond is lactose, dairy and soy free. If you are looking for a yummy alternative to cow’s milk, you should try this. I thought it tasted like a vanilla milkshake. I didn’t try the plain flavor, so I don’t know how that tastes. I liked the vanilla flavored one that I picked out first, that I just had to get it again. Now that I am out of coupons, I am still purchasing the Silk PureAlmond for my family. One ½ Gallon container is only $2.69 at the grocery store.

Silk PureAlmond is sponsoring a giveaway for 3 lucky winners. All three winners will win a free coupon for purchase of a half gallon of Silk Pure Almond (up to $3.99 value), and one lucky winner will also receive a Silk Pure Almond branded Chico Bag, in addition to the coupon.

This giveaway begins May 2, 2010 and ends May 16, 2010. You must be a US resident to enter. Your email must be either in your Blogger Profile or in your entry comment.
Main Entry: Leave a comment telling me who you would give this to and why. (If this rule isn’t followed, no additional entries will count).

Blogger And PR Product Pitch Website Groups

Saturday, March 20, 2010

There are more and more groups and websites popping up around the internet for bloggers and PR representatives to join. These groups are to allow bloggers to share product pitches for reviews and giveaways with other bloggers and for PR representatives to find bloggers to review their clients’ products. Some of these groups to not cost any money to join, and some do.

The Product Review Place - A ning group, free to join and get access to PR pitches. If you want access to the really good pitches, you have to join their elite list of bloggers at a cost of $5 a month.

MomDot VIP Forum - $6 a month, and you have access to pitches that are placed on the forum by a few PR representatives, but mostly other bloggers. I have been a member for a year and have benefited from it. However, I am taking a break from it because of money issues. I have found this to be one of the better sites that are on the internet.

Business2Blogger - Is a new site. I have been a member for a short period of time. It is free to join, but it is hard to get an opportunity from them.

TeamMom - I had to wait a long time to become a member of this group. It is free to join, but there is a waiting list. At least, there was a long waiting list when I applied. I’ve enjoyed being a member and have enjoyed the opportunities that they have given me.

MomSelect - This group was free to join. I have been on their list for about a year. I have received some good opportunities in the past, but lately they have not been so good. Mostly, they are asking you to attend Twitter parties or write a post about something in exchange for being entered into a contest.

The Cleverist - This is a new group. I just joined it and have no feedback to give you at this time. It was free to join.

AutismLearningFelt Forum - Yes, this is on my little forum. It’s a special VIP Blogger group. Very small. It’s free to join and specializes in product reviews and giveaways for those that have a special needs blog.

I’m sure there are more out there. These are the ones that I am familiar with. I strongly urge all bloggers to be careful which groups you join. Some are worth spending the $5 or $6 on. Others, are not. Free groups can be great, but may also be difficult to get opportunities from. Free groups tend to draw a lot of bloggers, thus more competition for opportunities that are listed in that group.

Also, be careful about groups that promise you something great if you join. There are new groups that are promising bloggers that join, and are accepted, free vacations. You sign up, fill out what type of products you would like to review, along with where you would like them mailed. They send out products to you, (some not even what you checked as interested in reviewing) and a note saying that they are sorry, but the company they bought the vouchers for went bankrupt.

Be smart, be careful, and be quick. When you see an opportunity that you like, don’t wait, respond. If you find a group that sounds too good to be true, it just may be. If you are just starting out in the product review and giveaway area, try working with groups that have been around for a while. MomDot and TeamMom are great. If you blog about special needs, join my small group. I don’t post a lot of opportunities in it, but the ones that I do are nice.

Miss Trimble's Trapdoor Books Review and Giveaway Closed

Thursday, March 4, 2010

I was sent the first two books in a series of children’s books by Lori Jordan-Rice to review and keep. The book s are titled “Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor” and Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor, The Perseverance of Christopher Columbus.” Both books were illustrated by Fox Carlton Hughes.

Most of the children’s books that I read are geared for young children, about the age of my daughter(6 ½). These books are for children around my son’s age, 11 years old this weekend. The main character in the book is a fifth grade boy named Tyler, that is shy, socially awkward, and has trouble paying attention in class.

Because of this, Tyler has his own corner in the classroom that is designated his “quiet place.” This is where he goes, or is sent, when he is having trouble concentrating. When I read this, it reminded me of my son and how he needs a quiet place to work. He is easily distracted. This is also true for a lot of autistic children and for children with other disabilities. However, there was nothing in the book that stated that the character had a disability of any kind. I asked the author what was the inspiration for the main character, if he is based on anyone in particular. She replied, “The main character, Tyler, is based loosely around my own oldest son, who is shy and struggles with self esteem. He is smart, but really needs his own "quiet space" to think and do his best.”

Ms. Jordan-Rice is a former elementary teacher that had become frustrated with the lack of knowledge children were able to demonstrate in the area of history. It seemed that more and more, our children are growing up “historically illiterate - meaning, our kids may not know which country the United States fought to declare its freedom, what explorer discovered America or even who won the battle of the Alamo.” She has written these books to teach history in a manner that will be engaging to young children. Ms. Jordan-Rice says “ The ‘Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor’ series revolves around a fictional classroom full of characters and their daily lives, with an extensive history lesson embedded in each story.”

I did not find this to be true in the first book. To me, the first book was centered on introducing the characters in the book and had a little bit of historical information in it. I felt that this was the best way to write the first book in the series. It gives the reader the opportunity to learn about the characters and to get invested in the story that is being read, and the ones to follow.

The second book does contain an extensive history lesson it. Both stories have important life lessons that are taught, using what has happened in our past (history), to teach the main character how to handle problems he faces in the present. In the first book, “Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor,” Tyler meets Barnabas Bailey, a talking dog that acts as his teacher and guide when Tyler discovers the trapdoor.

Tyler learns an important lesson about friendship and the importance of liking yourself first. In the second book, “Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor The Perseverance of Christopher Columbus,” Tyler learns that you have to work hard, be persistent, and accept failure in order to achieve success. These are great life lessons that children need to learn and understand.

It is my opinion that these books are not just books that your child can read for entertainment. They would be excellent books to use for book reports. They provide opportunities to discuss and relate events in the past to the present. You can use them to challenge your child’s critical thinking and interpretation skills. There soon will be other books in the series available for purchase. I am looking forward to that. For more information about the “Miss Trimble’s Trapdoor” series, please visit www.MissTrimblesTrapdoor.com.

This giveaway is for one autographed copy “Miss Trimble‘s Trapdoor“ and “Miss Trimble‘s Trapdoor The Perseverance of Christopher Columbus.” You must live in the US to enter. This giveaway begins March 4, 2010 and ends March 20, 2010.

Main Entry: Leave a comment telling me who you would give this to and why. (If this rule isn’t followed, no additional entries will count).
