Remembering Pearl Harbor Day

Monday, December 7, 2009

December 7, 1941, the day that will live in infamy. It is the day that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. I wanted to take time out of my day and remember this historical time in our history. It was the main reason that our country entered WWII. It was a shocking attack on our country and we responded the only way we could.

There are still veterans alive that served in WWII. I think we all should take some time and thank them for serving their country and protecting us. War is hell. It is a nightmare that I could never imagine being an active participant in. I am a mom, and this mom's basic instinct is to nurture. My father is retired army. I am extremely proud of him for serving his country for twenty years.

I went to visit my Grandmother for Thanksgiving. She doesn't talk about that period of time in her life. She was in her twenties at that time. Some people find it easy to talk about their past, but my Grandmother has always found it difficult to discuss that period.

If you know someone that served during that time, make time for him or her. Let us not forget the women that were involved with the military. It has been a long time since I studied this day of horror. I am going to take some time and read and remember what happened on one of the most important days in America's history. I also think that today would be great for teaching my son about the attack on Pearl Harbor and WWII. It won't be easy. The past, untangible stories are difficult for him to grasp. I think that I will have to use a lot of pictures to help him understand what happened.
