Special-Needs Kids Eat Right Book Review

Judy Converse is a registered licensed dietitian that specializes in dietary intervention for autism. She has written the book Special-Needs Kids Eat Right to help parents navigate the world of nutrition. Her book covers the topics of picking a team of professionals, dealing with the financial side of implementing a nutritional plan, determining your child’s nutritional needs and implementing a nutritional plan for your child.

I enjoyed reading Judy’s book. I was able to relate to her viewpoints and I was able to comprehend all of the material she presented in the book. This book is written to incorporate all aspects of nutrition. Judy explains about supplements, GFCF diet, and healthy food choices. She also stresses that it may be easier for both the child and the parents if you take things slowly. If you pull out all problem foods at one time, you may be setting yourself up for a big battle with your child. Also, if you do a gradual change in your shopping, you will end up throwing less away because your child refuses it.

Judy covers the different tests that can be done by a doctor as well as tests you can do visually to determine deficiencies and excesses in nutrients. There are also tests that can determine allergies as well as sensitivities to specific food types. Some lab tests are covered by insurance companies, while others are not. Judy gives advice in how to get around the ones that are not. This is a good book to have if you have concerns about your child’s nutritional needs. You will find a lot of answers to questions that arise when you start on your journey to change your child’s nutritional status. Judy believes that diet alone is not enough. You have to know why your child is only eating a certain type of food and address that issue. For more information about Judy and her book, you can visit her site www.NutritionCare.net.
