Parent Takes Picture of Baby Smoking A Bong

Florida authorities are looking into the parents of a child apparently photographed smoking a bong. The mother is quoted as saying:
“..And I took the pic to show one f**** person and it was a mistake. I would never ever let him get high.”
Florida Department of Children and Families have been out to investigate this family twice. The mother will undergo drug testing and the child will undergo medical evaluations from a pediatrician.
I think the mom was stupid in taking this picture. I also think she was stupid to have drug paraphernalia in her home. Even if we give her the benefit of the doubt, and say it was just something she has for a conversational piece, a bong is not something you should have in the house when you have children.
In my opinion, this woman is guilty of being stupid, but not child abuse. Unless, of course, the medical evaluations contradict what the mom has stated. It’s a shame that some parents can be so careless and thoughtless. It’s horrible that there are parents out there that can be so clueless in their actions.
What we do, or don’t do, has a big impact on our children. You have to think things out, and not act impulsively. I don’t do anything without thinking how it will impact my children. Parents have always said that raising a child would be easier with a handbook. There are those that believe some people should not be parents. I believe that there are a lot of parents out there that need to rethink their parenting skills and get help. This is one woman that needs to attend some parenting classes and see a therapist.

I completely agree- if they find out in tests that he was exposed then that is abuse....
the picture (assuming it is not in use) is a bad judgment call but not 'abuse'- classes would be a good option.
I somewhat agree with you.
While I agree that taking the picture was stupid on the mother's part, I'm willing to bet that she thought it was the funniest thing ever and that is why she took it in the first place. I think her having the baby in an environment where drug paraphernalia is as easily accessible as the bong obviously was is child abuse.
Think about it- if the bong was within reach of an 11 month old then the weed to go in that bong was probably not far behind!
My parents taught me that we should avoid the APPEARANCE of evil at all costs. When you do that the best you can then you will less likely make stupid mistakes like this.
That is just crazy, and a very bad judgement on moms part. Some things are just not right and this being one of them. Hopefully this was a joke, you know just a picture without any harm done to the child. But today, honestly people do crazy things and more often than not, they not only use bad judgement but put their kids in harms way without much thinking.
I don't care if people toke it up in their home. It is illegal though. BUT seriously if you are going to do it, don't take pictures of your kid playing with AND don't do it around your kid.
I bet they make her go to rehab and NA. Wouldn't hurt.
I'm just hoping it was a joke and the child wasn't exposed.
THC stays in the system for a good 30 days, so there will be no doubt if the child inhaled some, whether during this pic, or from the second hand smoke of an adult.
Even if the child had no exposeure, it certainly brings the parent's judgement into question.
I have to guess it was just meant to be "funny". They said the mom was only 19, people still make tons of mistakes at 19! I don't think this picture is any better or worse than when people pose their kid with alcohol bottles.
