Amy Grant's New CD Somewhere Down The Road

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

I listen to Country music, now. I didn’t always. When I was a teenager, I listened to Pop music. One of my favorite singers back then was Amy Grant. Amy Grant was a Christian music singer, but her songs were showing up on the Pop music charts. Amy Grant has had 10 Top 40 songs.

When I was offered the opportunity to review her latest CD, due to be released on March 30. I was sent a pre-release CD of Amy Grant’s new CD Somewhere Down The Road.

The first single from the new project, “Better Than a Hallelujah,” penned by Chapin Hartford and Sarah Hart, is Grant’s first new radio single since “Simple Things” in 2003. When Amy’s manager, Jennifer Cooke, emailed her the song, she knew she had to record it. “The honesty of it, the vulnerability of the lyrics, the beautiful melody, and that the song found me right where I was in my own journey was incredibly powerful,” says Grant, admitting the song resonated strongly with her as she dealt with the death of her longtime friend musician Ruth McGinnis. “The song is just so poignant and redemptive. In the lyric there is no religious code or lingo going on and the message is true, it’s good news. I love every scenario it’s painting.”

I am not one for listening to Christian music, but I enjoy Amy Grant’s vocal abilities. The emotion she puts into her singing pulls in the listener. When I listen to this CD, I am listening to music, period. It transcends categorization.

I have two favorites on this CD. They are “What is the Chance Of That,” which I see ending up on several Top music style lists, and “Third World Woman.” “Third World Woman” really pulls at the heart strings, especially after the tragedy in Haiti. I recommend this CD and I hope you will get a copy when it comes out. If you want to learn more about Amy Grant and her music, you can visit her Official Website.

UPDATE: Here is another great review from Kim at Accidental Mommies She's a lot braver than me, for including an audio recording of one of the songs with her singing to it. She has a great voice. Way better than mine.

I'll have to check her out. Her name sounds familiar but as I still listen to pop I'm not really up on this genre. Thanks for the suggestion!
