Get family and friends together and have a fun bake day, then put someone in charge of sitting at the sale, figure out where to have the sale, get permission from the owner of the establishment, and teach homeschooling children how to help in the process.
The thing about being sure something sells is to make sure it is something people will use easily. If it is useful, there is a much bigger chance that it will be a success.
Autistic mothers looking to earn money for their children's education, health issues, medications, research, therapy, or their own educational benefits to help their children should consider the benefits of bake sales.
There are businesses who would be happy to loan a bit of space for the sale to get more people drawn to their establishment. Potential customers are always a positive. Some businesses may want to even match the sales as their own charitable contribution.
One territory to keep in mind is the local library. If you could tie in your sales with the library, you have a selling point to gain their cooperation and a public footpath to gain exposure. Maybe you could donate a portion of the income from the sales to the library to help raise awareness of both the library and autism.
Libraries can always use more patrons and money to help with special events or purchases. Plus, your bake sell could invite the public to become library volunteers.
Remember, if you do decide to hold a bake sale...take at least $20 in change, take a snack and drink tote for yourself, make sure there is a rest room nearby, get a relief person for when you need to step away from the table, and wear your sunscreen if you do not have an umbrella or canopy. Take into consideration the weather. If it is hot outside, your baked goods will spoil or melt quicker than if the weather is pleasant. Make sure you advertise as well, and keep in mind that signs must be easily readable for any passersby. Any other tips are welcome!

I think the library is an excellent place for a bake sale, especially if you combined it with raising awareness of autism.
Another place I've seen people hold bake sales is at Walgreens. Maybe it's just my Walgreens that does it, but I think it's pretty great that they allow it and that so many people can see it, then.
