TNT's Dark Blue

Have you heard about TNT’s new show Dark Blue? It premieres Wednesday, July 15, at 10:00 PM ET/PT. The executive producer is Jerry Bruckheimer of the CSI series and Without a Trace. I just love those shows, don’t you? The cast is headed up with Dylan McDermott from The Practice. I think he is a great actor.
TNT sent me the first episode to watch and give my opinion. I am hooked on The Closer, Raising the Bar and Leverage. I was eager to watch this new show and find out what it is about. The first episode held my attention. I was intrigued about who each of the characters are and what was going on during the show. I have not completely made up my mind if this is going to be as big a hit as TNT’s other shows, but it is looking good so far.
There are four main characters and I would like to take a little time to give you my impression of them. The main character, Lt. Carter Shaw(Dylan McDermott) is a cop that seems to live and breath his job. He is protective of the members of his team and is concerned about the affect of living an undercover life has on them. That being said, he doesn’t seem to be concerned about the affect it has on their personal lives. The only thing we learn in this episode is something happened to his wife. What or when, we don’t know yet.
Next, we have Ty Curtis, played by Omari Hardwick, who is recently married to a woman that seems to be supportive of him, but is also extremely worried about what being an undercover cop does to her husband’s psyche. Ty is determined to use this job as a stepping stone for his career. He worries about his other team members and is willing to put them ahead of his personal life.
The complete opposite of Ty is Dean Bendis, played by Logan Marshall-Green. He strikes me as a cop on the edge. He has been working undercover so long, that it seems like he might be having trouble telling what side of the law he is on. I will say that part of him still knows, but I got the feeling that it is a real struggle.
The final character is a rookie to the team. Jaimie Allen, played by Nicki Aycox is recruited by Shaw to work undercover with his elite team. Shaw finds out the Jaimie has a sketchy, made up, past and uses that to pull her in. Jaimie jumps right in with both feet and seems to love being the newest member of the group. She is also quick to sizing up a situation and acting upon her instincts.
The main premise of this show is that this group works separate from the police department. Lt. Carter Shaw has complete control and gets the job done playing by his rules. This leads to a confrontation with the FBI in the first episode and you really get to see Shaw stand up for his team and one of his undercover members. Be sure to check this show out on Wednesday and then come back here and tell me what you think. I believe that this is a show worth watching and I look forward to watching the characters develop.
