My daughter is still in the young and innocent age. She loves her older brother and accepts him for who he is. I know the time will come when she will start asking questions that I will have a hard time answering. She will ask me why her brother doesn’t talk and accepts the simple answer that he has autism. He can not speak, but he can “talk” to us using his keypad.
The Other Kid is a workbook for siblings of special needs children. It allows them to draw how they are feeling. It lets them know that it is ok to have feelings about their brother or sister and how to deal with those emotions. It lets them know that they are important, and that when they are feeling lonely it is good to talk to an adult about it. There is a journal in the back of the workbook for the child to write out their thoughts and feelings or just what is going on in their life.
I like this book and look forward to letting my daughter use it. I will have to wait at least a year before giving it to her. She is in Kindergarten now and just learning how to read and write. If you are looking for something your child with no disability that will help him/her deal with her feelings about having a special needs sibling, I suggest getting a copy of this workbook.

thanks for 'dropping' by my blog, Im glad you did otherwise I might not have found your blog. I have two 'special needs' kids so I enjoy reading other parents who have kids with special needs.
I would love this for my adhd/add kids as they get so frustrated, upset & jealous of my Aspie & Autism sons.
Thanks!
would love to look at this and show to other moms who deal with this problem..this looks great
WOW this would be great for my daughter. She is in kindy now but soon will be needing to experess her feelings.
This is for my eldest who is diagnosed and his little siblings to help understand him better. Thnaks for the contest!
It would be nice for my siblings, as myself and one of my brothers are special needs. I don't quite pick up on it, but sometimes I scare them or their friends or embaress them. I think this would help them have a way to express those feelings, but I would give it to my stepmom to decide.

I am going to forward your blog to a friend who owns a school for children with autism. Sounds like you have some great ideas and resources!
I would love this for my 7 year old son he is a older brother. His brother is 5 years old and just diagnosed with autism. He has a hard time understanding that his brother does thing differently and does not talk alot.
He thinks he does not understand what we say to him and it is hard for me to explain because it is new to me too.
