“”In My Mind, The World through the Eyes of Autism” is a well-written book which opens the readers mind to the world of autism. Autism is a mystical condition; this book gave me insight into what we merely see on the surface when dealing with people diagnosed with autism. Through this picture book, I was able to connect with what lies beneath the observable characteristics. I really enjoyed the book and have encouraged others to read it as well.”"

Author Bio

Adonya Wong attended Suffield University in Twin Falls, Idaho where she received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Business Administration.

She has a diverse professional background and has worked in several industries such as banking, telecommunications, sales, healthcare, and nonprofit management. She is also a veteran of the United States Navy; having served in Iceland and Maryland. After being honorably discharged in 1991, she served with the California Air National Guard for four years.

In My Mind creatively explores, through the form of a children’s picture book, the inner world of an autistic child… the world no one else seems to see.

From exciting adventures to silly games and conversations with a range of imaginary friends, the main character of the story, inspired by her son, Nicholas, brings readers into his world to demonstrate how a child with autism sees the world, and, in turn, how the world often sees a child with autism.
Adonya’s primary motivation for writing such a book stemmed from the most basic recognition that there was a scarcity of literature directed to and written for autistic children and their families.

It is her intention, through her work, to encourage readers to want to learn more about the autism disorder. In My Mind was written to help raise awareness about autism, and she hopes that the reader will gain a deeper sense of compassion and tolerance for those “different” than themselves.

When she is not writing, she homeschools her son and heads the Tulsa-based nonprofit which she founded, M.O.C.H.A. – Mothers of Color for Holistic Alternatives.

Adonya lives in northeastern Oklahoma with her family where she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, watching classic movies, and curling up with a good book.

I would love to win the contest. Why? We're just entering the world of ASD, and I want to learn as much as I can so I can be a better mom to my son.

I want to win this book! But if I don't I'll probably buy it. Just would like her sig.

What I fear the most about my son who just started a mainstream kindergarten (only because of his 99.9th percentile IQ (I'm not exaggerating either). He turned 5 in July and was enrolled for a cdc preschool and at the last minute got "upgraded" for fear of behavior problems due to boredom) is how his peers view him. I know we shouldn't care what others think but when it comes to children it is so much more delicate. In an online interview I told an author that what I think should be implemented in schools is a segment in the social curriculum that introduces the concept of neurodiversity at an early age. Especially for special needs kids whose needs are "hidden." Children's books are a wonderful way to do that! I wish I had thought of it! lol

Would love to win this Book for a friend, a widow with an autistic daughter! due to the lack of facilities and support some years back, it was really tough to learn how to handle and managed such a child! she is unable to afford to place her child in autistic Centres locally!

I don't have any autistic children but I've read a little about this. This is a great thing you're doing. People should be more aware.

We would love to win this contest!

Having my little one on the spectrum, I believe the book would help us. He really loves to "read" and it would re-enforce our bond.

I love Adonya's post "The Bittersweet Ingredient In Chocolate."

Fair Trade is so vital because it eradicates and ends sweatshops and the sweatshop mentality allowing every farmer and worker to be treated with respect and honor which then makes for a happier, saner and more peaceful world.

Thanks again for this giveaway! : )))

I'm so happy to see this as a giveaway. There needs to be more awareness. I specifically liked When Autism Grows Up, How Prepared Are You?. My sister has a child with autism and I know how hard it is for her. We wonder how it will be when he is grown and if he will ever be able to live alone. Thanks!
